Arguably, the days of hard slide-out keyboard are numbered. While HTC Desire Z sports a keyboard on the screen is pretty good app for most people who use its highly sensitive 480×800 pixel resolution, 3.7in screen capacitive touch. The virtual keyboard was so good, especially with the widescreen display that in the trials we hardly felt the need to pull hard on the keyboard at all. A wide range of secondary symbols on Fn key combinations, and you always get more opportunities if you hold down a key, making it easy to get European characters such as é, è, E and E.
The keyboard does not slide in the old sense, but instead slides forward on a hinge system that lifts the upper desire Z, as it slides back. This means that the keyboard can sit almost level with the section of the screen, which gives easy access to all buttons and avoid hollow or lips that can make a few keys on the keyboard slide easily accessible .
For all this, the keyboard itself is not the best we’ve used it. The keys are separated and individually precision strike was not a problem. However, we found the keys are not as tactile as we liked. This is annoying for two reasons – first is the ease of use, the second because the rest of the build quality is great. A metal plate and a solid chassis otherwise lead to a feeling of high quality.
We have never seen before, the interface Sense HTC slides in full screen mode when you set up keyboard, HTC has had to make a change in the user interface to make work the keyboard.
800 MHz processor Desire Z is not quite at the top of the tree, but he does it very well. There’s just 1.5 MB of onboard memory, but our test unit came with an 8GB microSD card to strengthen this policy. Slot is awkwardly located under the battery of the handset, though.

The main selling point of the new browser is its ability to tell the graphics card to speed up in order to render motion and graphics even more quickly. It is the first browser that fully uses the GPU along with CPU.

Microsoft has accelerated Webpages which is really great, but still it is necessary for developers to create sites that will be able to work on all browsers. In fact, a site whose magic depends only on the hardware acceleration offered only by IE9 might work horribly for users of Firefox. It is believed that graphics acceleration of IE9 will inspire other makers of browsers to boost their own acceleration.

As for privacy protection, the company added a new feature, known as Tracking Protectiom. It is responsible for blocking particular sites from dropping cookies. In order a user could take advantage of the tool it is necessary to add a Tarcking Protection List.

Users are provided with an opportunity to customize the site when it is running. It is possible to “pin on” square shortcut buttons. More people are watching iPlayer catch-up television than ever, according to recently released BBC statistics.

The BBC says the increase is down to the ability to watch sport on the service – Six Nations rugby, Premiership and American football representing a big portion of streamed-live content.

Other statistics have shown the number of requests on the iPad hit 2.1 million in the short month of February, up 22 per cent on January. With the release of the iPad 2 looking successful, we assume this figure will only increase.

Although tablets saw an increase, the aforementioned 28-day February saw the total number of hits decrease from 162 million down to 148 million, with 23 million of that coming from Virgin Media iPlayer requests.

From an online-only perspective, 125 million requests were received, which breaks down to 94 million for TV and 32 million for radio.

It’s worth noting stastics indicate iPlayer use is roughly the same as ‘generic’ television use. This indicates people are now more inclined to spend more free time in front of a computer and not an oggle-box, although, “there is proportionally more daytime and late-peak use.”

Considering new data shows social networking has beaten entertainment to the number one spot as the UK’s favourite online activity, we don’t doubt the average user is choosing what they want to watch in front of their computer, whilst engaging in a bit of Facebook voyeurism.
